When you don't have time to do any sketching the whole day, still try to do whatever you can manage. This watercolor version is what I managed to do today after a busy non sketching day. This is based on one of the graphite sketches I sketched yesterday when I noticed an umbrella moving around under the sun.

Medium: watercolor on sketchbook
Size: 6 1/2" H x 4"
Time: 25 min.

A new year, a new day and start of a new sketchbook as well. Though the day began with rain even before the dawn, the day turned from gloomy to beautiful sunny by afternoon with a very nice weather. It was good to go out to the Musical Fountain Park again to sketch as well as meet and greet many people. I hope you have also started your new year with some beautiful colors. Happy New Year, 2015 to everybody!

Bird sketches from Guwahati.

These birds were sketched on location. I sketched the black kites on the right page in the Guwahati Zoological Park, Assam a few months back. The cranes on left page were sketched only with few graphite lines at the Dighali Pukhuri, Guwahati as they were looking for small fishes and insects a little in front of me while I was doing another sketch. Yesterday, I thought of adding some colors to them and ended up putting them in an imaginary scenario!

Medium: watercolor and graphite on sketchbook
Size: 10" H x 13" W
Source: live, added the colors for the cranes at home.

A birthday gift that came all the way from across the continent. Thanks a lot my sweet wifey for sending me this beautiful brush! I am delighted!!

There's something special about these bell peppers/capsicum. They become translucent and glow with their beautiful subtle colors under sunlight.

Areca nut and Betel leaves

Kindly click on the image for a bigger view
Areca nut and Betel leaves are used in northeast region of india in all sort of formal occasions and rituals, apart from chewing for their mild stimulant effect. Known as 'Tamul' [areca nut] and 'Paan' [betel leaf] in Assamese, not long ago, they were used to offer in pairs as a formal wedding invitation to guests [ along with verbally explaining the whole schedule of the event!] and other formal of occasions. The Areca nut tree may grow approx. 30 feet in height and the betel leaf plants are grown on the trunk of these trees. The husk of areca nut is green while it is fresh and the nut inside is soft, as it ripens the husk turns orange and the nut hardens like wood.
