Small Scooter sketch

These small scooters have filled the roads everywhere. It seems everybody wants one! These 2 wheelers are generally automatic, hence convenient for slow and dense traffic conditions. Some of these also comes in electrical versions. Also great for sketching !

Lifeline of Indian kitchens

Kindly click on the image for a bigger view

They are the lifeline to most of the Indian kitchens delivering the household cooking gas cylinders door to door every single day on their motorbikes. A very common site where they load up these and rush to and fro.

Quick sketches from my sketchbook

Kindly click on the image for a bigger view
The weather has been in playful mood in Bangalore nowadays. It's been quite some time now since the Sun and the rain is playing hide and seek almost everyday. It may be sunny at one moment but can be gloomy and raining heavily soon after and back to sunny mood again. You may never know which part of the city you will catch the rain at what time!

Few quick sketches from a page of my sketchbook. Goal was to observe and paint the big shapes first and then break them into different tonal value shapes.

Medium: watercolor on sketchbook.
Size: 6 1/2" H x 10" W
Time: 90 min. approx.

Another Three wheeler

Kindly click on the image for a bigger view

Another quick sketch of this popular mode of short traveling in India. This is somewhat a newer version [model] of this timeless three wheel vehicle though I still like the look of the older rustic ones which are more classic.

Medium: watercolor on sketchbook.
Size: 5" x 4 1/2" Approx.
Time: 30 Min approx.

A sketchbook page

Kindly click on the image for a bigger view

A page from my sketchbook. The left sketch was done couple of months back. I was trying to explore usage of complimentary colors by exaggeration. Rather than trying a desaturated background I tried to experimented with a saturated complimentary color green to the red tomato which also happens to have the same hue underside of it giving a chance to blend with lost edges.

The right one is from yesterday morning trying to capture big shapes of colors and values. Noticed this vehicle parked just near our home. The shape and it's structure always fascinates me, specially when under a strong sunlight. It's a great exercise just to concentrate on the bigger shapes and simplify everything else.

Sketching shapes of light and shadows

If there are interesting shapes of light and shadow, anything can become an inspiring element to work from. Also non conventional vantage point adds extra interest. Sketched this from our living room window around post lunch time when the Sun hits hard on the roof creating hard edged shadow.

Doodling fun cars.

It is doodling time with fun colors!! Tried some vehicle sketches again after a long time and I always have fun doing these where I can be free of any real expectations and just see what is evolving in the paper itself by putting line after line.

Early morning drive in wintery Delhi

This one is somewhere in between a sketch and a painting :) or rather it went a little beyond a normal sketch, which most probably i will make a much larger version. it is more of a study and experimentation of various aspects.

Thanks a lot Sawan for sharing the beautiful pic u clicked and allowing me to paint :)!! Hope u liked this version too!!

the food grain carrier. there's a big storage area of Food Corporation of India just across the street of where i stay and every morning these trucks will line up to go in and come back loaded with the food grain sacks. they will wait for sometime before making there journey's to their destinations. this one caught my attention because of the beautiful sun and shadow it was casting with its loads. to add on this, while sketching this [about 65 %], there was a monkey attack :)!! these two monkey came and entered my house and took out some potatoes, a pack of flour and peanuts and was not moving at all for an hour. they also drank and threw away my water sources of painting! finally when they left, the truck has already gone. so i had to finish the rest of this sketch from my memory. i am glad that i had put enough input in this sketch already before the drama began.

one of the many fruit sellers at the neighborhood weekly suburban market. they come in their vehicle loaded with all these colorful fruits and set up the same as a makeshift shop, i think they keep going to different localities 7 days a week! i loved these weekly markets that are held in different parts and corners and mostly i guess outskirts of the city. they are very colorful and full of characteristic. this weekly market is just 5 min walk away from my home and is held on every thursday. i went to this market few times before and always thought of sketching the next time i visit again. today, i took my sketchbook and colors and did couple of sketches. and it was a very nice experience as i was working with two sketches at the same time as either one of the subject will be blocked by crowd or vehicle!! btw, i bought some vegetables also :)!!
