Sketches at Chennai Beach

Kindly click on the image for a bigger version

I visited Chennai last weekend to conduct a watercolor workshop on watercolor techniques which went on very well. There, I was staying at Balaji sir and Nithya madam's place which is just next to the sea. On Monday morning I took the opportunity for a walk to the beach which is only few meters away and did this sketch of a fisherman's village [ Thiruvanmiyur Beach ]. This was done very quickly standing right on the edge of the beach with waves touching the feet every now and then, So I had to be extra careful not to loose any sketching tools. This was painted with my new paint box recycled from a small mint tin box. In spite of the hot and humid weather of Chennai, the morning breeze was very pleasant at the beach.

This is the second sketch from my morning walk at the beach in Chennai. This view is of another fisherman's village towards south [may be Kottivakkam Beach.]. It was getting hotter slowly and I was in dilemma of sketching or not as there were no shade but finally deiced to do a very quick one. To save time, this was sketched directly with a brush and color without any underlying guidelines. At the end I was pleased to have couple of quick sketches at this Chennai beach !

Glowing dark, Beautiful Bright!

This quick watercolor sketch is from couple of months back but somehow never posted. I remember putting myself to two challenges in that evening. First, to paint directly with color without any graphite underlying guidelines and Second, to paint the dark background in one single layer ! Had fun!

Complimentary colors in nature.

It's that time of the year when all around of Bangalore is blooming with colorful flower trees. The two most noticeable ones are Jacaranda mimosifolia, also know as Jacaranda, Blue Jacaranda [the purple colored one] and Golden bells or the silver trumpet also know as Tabebuia Caraiba [the yellow one]. The best view is when they are seen blossoming together, the power of complimentary colors in nature! did a quick graphite sketch at Government museum and put the colors back at home .

Season of water melons

I think this is the time of the year for watermelon as they are available everywhere. From roadside vendors, small carts, neighborhood shops to supermarkets, everybody is selling them. Considering the daytime warm temperature Bangalore is going through, this fruit is the right choice to have now. And of course for some painting too as they are great examples of complimentary colors !
